Snow and preparations
24 March 2024 19:33My wife goes in for a surgery (outpatient) first thing tomorrow morning, so this was a day of brainstorming plans for the garden and house in between cooking, cleaning, and generally prepping for a few days of recovery.
The the brainstormed plans are re-clarifying around an understanding of the house as a tool and asset rather than a sort of storage shed where we put our Things. Our Things have gotten bigger than we'd like as our lives have been a little chaotic these past years, and we're buckling down on decluttering and minimizing things that aren't needed anymore. Then we can re-consider what we DO need. Priorities are rebooting the pantry, and organizing things that are needed in specific situations; those items have gotten spread around the house and it is not convenient.
We talked about a perhaps-obvious notion that I needed to remember again: as a tool, our house is our shelter; it's where we work and play and rest; it's where we store, manage, and make food; and it's a place where we can offer hospitality to others. It helps us take care of ourselves, as does our yard and car and truck. It's not a storage unit or a display room and it deserves our respect. Remembering this helps me focus on what's important now.
It has snowed all day, but it's been warm enough that only a few inches have stuck and the roads remain clear. I'm pretty excited to see what the garden does when the sun comes out again.
